The Waltah the Worm Educational Program is a high-tech, high-touch approach to hands-on learning that uses various mediums such as syndicated TV shows, a 5-acre sustainability learning center called, Palaka Moon Farm, and interactive web-based teaching tools to educate our children and community about sustainability.
Global and local leaders agree that sustainability is our future. To improve the health and well-being of our natural resources, community and economy, weʻll need to take our thinking and doing skills to a new level. Retention rates through traditional learning are around 5-10%, while hands-on learners retain 80-90%. Also, thinking skills improve when technology is integrated in student learning. So, by including high-tech and high-touch efforts in addressing the global and local interests in sustainability, our program helps prepare us all for a healthier, wealthier and wiser future.
